Vinayak Hora (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a Vedic astrology application. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, where it is stored, and how you can access or delete it.

1. Summary

  • Your data is stored locally on your device by default.
  • If you take a paid subscription, your horoscopes are backed up and synced to our cloud (Google Firebase) so they survive device loss and sync across your devices.
  • We do not sell your data and do not use your email, name, or birth details for marketing.

2. Information We Collect

a) Account Information (Google Sign-In)

When you sign in with Google we receive your email address, display name, and profile photo, and we create an account identifier (UID). This is used to identify your account, restore your purchases and data across devices, and (for subscribers) sync your horoscopes.

b) Horoscope Data

Birth details you enter — name, gender, date and time of birth, place, latitude/longitude, time zone, altitude — and any notes you add. These are stored locally. For subscribers, this data is also stored in our cloud to provide backup and cross-device synchronization. Sample/demo horoscopes are never uploaded.

c) Subscription & Billing Data

When you purchase a subscription through Google Play, we store your subscription tier, status, renewal/expiry date, product identifier, and the Google Play purchase token to provide and validate your entitlement. Payment itself is processed by Google Play; we never receive your card or payment details.

d) Device & Usage Data

  • A device App Set ID and first-seen timestamp, used to manage the introductory ad-free period and prevent abuse.
  • Firebase Analytics usage and diagnostic data (such as app events, device model, operating system version, and approximate region) to understand usage and improve the app.
  • Firebase App Check attestation tokens to protect our backend from abuse.
  • Firebase Crashlytics crash and diagnostic reports (such as error stack traces, device model, operating system version, app state at the time of an error, and a Crashlytics installation identifier) so we can detect and fix crashes and failures. These reports do not include your name, email address, or horoscope content.
  • For the free tier, Google AdMob may use an advertising identifier to display advertisements. Where required by applicable law, we request your consent before serving personalized advertisements. You may change your advertising preferences through your device or Google settings where available.

e) App Settings

Your preferences (language, theme, dashboard layout, calculation options) are stored locally on your device.

f) Website Analytics (vinayakhora.in)

The vinayakhora.in website (separate from the app) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the blog — such as pages viewed, approximate location (derived from IP address), device and browser type, and referral source. We have enabled IP anonymization and Do Not Track support where technically possible. This data is not linked to your app account or horoscope data. See Google’s Privacy Policy for how Google processes this information.

3. Where Data Is Stored

  • On your device: an encrypted local database and app preferences.
  • In the cloud: Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, App Check, Crashlytics) and Google Play billing services. Data may be processed on Google infrastructure, including the asia-south1 (India) region.
  • Google may process data in multiple countries depending on its infrastructure and service requirements. Where applicable, Google provides safeguards for international transfers in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

  • Provide astrology calculations and the app’s features.
  • Authenticate you and restore your purchases and data across devices.
  • Back up and synchronize horoscopes for subscribers.
  • Validate and manage subscriptions.
  • Maintain security and prevent abuse.
  • Detect, diagnose, and fix crashes and failures.
  • Improve the app through aggregate analytics.

We do not use your personal information (email, name, or birth details) for marketing, and we do not sell or share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we process your personal data on one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract – to provide the app, perform astrology calculations, synchronize subscriber data, and manage subscriptions.
  • Legitimate interests – to maintain security, prevent abuse, diagnose and fix crashes, improve the app, and analyze aggregate usage.
  • Consent – where required, including for personalized advertising or analytics. You may withdraw consent where applicable through your device, Google settings, or by contacting us.
  • Legal obligations – where processing is required by applicable law.

6. Sharing & Third-Party Services

We share data only with service providers that operate the app. These providers process data under their own privacy policies.

  • Google Play Services / Firebase (authentication, database, app integrity, billing)
  • Firebase Analytics
  • Firebase Crashlytics (crash and diagnostics reporting)
  • Google AdMob (advertising for the free tier only)
  • Google Analytics (website traffic analysis, vinayakhora.in only)

We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing.

We may also disclose information where required to comply with applicable laws, regulations, court orders, lawful governmental requests, or to protect our legal rights and the security of our services.

7. Data Retention

Cloud horoscope data, account information, and subscription records are retained while your account exists.

If you delete your account or request deletion, your personal data is normally removed promptly and, in any event, within 30 days, unless a longer retention period is required by applicable law.

Crash and diagnostic reports are retained by our service provider for a limited period (typically up to 90 days).

Local data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.

8. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent.

Deleting Your Data

  • In the app: Open Settings and choose Delete account & data (the last option). You will be shown the consequences and asked to confirm. Upon confirmation, we permanently delete your cloud horoscopes, account, and subscription records, and remove your data from this device.
  • Without the app: Email vinayakhora@gmail.com from your account email address with your deletion request, and we will delete your data within 30 days.

Note: Deleting your data does not cancel an active Google Play subscription. To stop future billing, cancel the subscription in Google Play → Subscriptions.

Exporting Your Data

Where supported by the app, you may export your horoscope data before deleting your account.

9. Children

The app is not directed to children under the age required by your local law for digital consent. We do not knowingly collect personal data from such children.

10. Automated Processing

The app performs automated astrology calculations solely based on the birth information that you provide. These calculations are generated algorithmically and are intended only for astrological and informational purposes. They are not used for legal, financial, employment, insurance, healthcare, or any other decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects.

11. Security

Local data is stored in an encrypted database. Cloud data is protected by per-user access rules so that only your authenticated account can read or write your records, and by Firebase App Check.

While we use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the Internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated “Last updated” date.
